Hi Fish Families!

I sent the math homework in folders today instead of Monday to give the children some extra time to work on a 100 day of school project. Book bags will begin on Tuesday and the children are excited to read to all of you! The books they will be bringing home are ones we have worked on all week. Enjoy celebrating their hard work with them!

The fish predicted the Super Bowl champion today. The Broncos got 15 tallies and the Seahawks got 3. It was fun to hear their reasons (uniform, mascot, team colors, etc.)

SMS donated 1,187 cans of tuna to the End 68 Hours of Hunger group. Way to go SMS and thank you!

Here is a glimpse of our week in the fish class:

Language Arts: During readers' workshop we learned about partner reading. The kids practiced sitting hip to hip, shoulder to shoulder, with the book in the middle. Kindergarteners love reading together! The children have been busy writing list books. We are great at using a pattern to write a book and I am seeing some list with a twist books where the last page changes. Way to go fish friends!

Math: We continue working on addition within 12 and graphing skills.  The children loved playing Yahtzee this week. This is a great game to play at home to reinforce key kindergarten math concepts like subitizing, adding on, and number recognition.

Related Arts:  In library this week, Mrs. Wigode had a yurt set up. We learned about yurts and got to listen to a story inside of a yurt the SMS school community made 10 years ago.

Social Studies: We spent the day today learning about Chinese New Year through a non-fiction story and various activities. Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Song of the week:
Various "Mr. Mark Move to Learn" activities (they are on YouTube and got us moving since it was too cold for outside recess)

Book of the Week:  The Hat by Jan Brett

App of the Week:
10 Frame Fill
