February 17, 2017

Hi!

Hopefully next week will be a full week of learning here in the fish class! Here is a glimpse into what we worked on this week:

Readers' Workshop: We have been talking about super powers and how we can use them when patterns break in our stories. Patterns are changing in the "just right books" your kiddos are reading. We also worked on what to do when something doesn't make sense. Readers should stop and ask, Does it make sense? Does it sound right? Does the word look right? The children know that what we read has to make sense or we need to go back and fix it. They are practicing doing a re-tell with partners focusing on what the whole book is really saying. You can try this at home with the books that come home on Tuesdays.

Math Workshop: We continue to work on making groups of ten items. The children are thinking flexibly that 10 can be 0 and 10, 1 and 9, 3 and 7, etc. We are also building teen numbers using manipulatives. We continue to rote count to 100 and beyond.

Books We Have Read: Snowmen All Year, Froggy's First Kiss, Secret Valentine, Happy Valentine's Day, Mouse!, Should I Share My Ice Cream?, Up, Up, Down

Up-Coming Events:
  •  Read Across America Week- Monday is crazy sock day!
  • Handwriting- k and y
  • Word of the Week-we
  • Lively Letter- superstar e
  • February Break- 2/27-3/3

Enjoy the all of the snow we have this weekend!
