Greetings!

You may have heard that the Chair Fairy came to our classroom last night and moved around our snack seats. The children are excited to get to know a new group of children a little better during snack time! The Chair Fairy visits our classroom about every four weeks.

We also had a visit from Mrs. Belanger, our assistant principal. She read Planet Kindergarten to us!

Math Workshop: We began working with 10 frames this week. The children represented numbers 0-10 using magnetic dots on ten frames. We graphed pattern blocks focusing on most, least, fewer, more and equal. This is important math language, so any reinforcing you can do at home using these terms would be greatly appreciated. We have been doing quick looks (looking at arranged dots and writing how many are there without counting them individually.) This is called subitizing and it is an important math skill to develop. The children are also working on writing numerals 0-10.

Readers' Workshop: The children are beginning to view themselves as the readers they are! We learned about reading a book from cover to cover and re-reading a book to learn more. The children are marking a "Wow Page" to prepare themselves for talking about their book when they get into partnerships. The also re-told  Three Billy Goats Gruff using some toys that go along with the story.

Writers' Workshop: A big focus this week was picturing what we want to write about in our mind before putting our ideas onto paper. Visualization can be tricky for kindergarten children. We will continue to work on this skill all year long. It is exciting to see our writers begin to attempt to write letters/words on their pages. I love seeing all of the labels on their pieces!

Today we did math in the garden. The children found sets of objects, counted them and recorded their findings by sketching.
