Hello Fish Families!

The 3rd marking period ended today. Progress reports will be sent home on Friday, April 13 for the purpose of reporting attendance. Conferences replace traditional grading this quarter.

Here is a glimpse into our week in the fish class:

Readers' Workshop: The children have been working on their book talking skills in partnerships this week. We have been discussing characters and how they are feeling. Some children are making connections to a time they have felt the same way their characters were feeling. Our readers are also recommending books to their peers. It is wonderful to see the children reading books that can help develop comprehension skills!

Writers' Workshop: Our authors are wrapping up our Narrative unit. They chose the piece they would like to edit/fancy up next week. Our next unit of study will be informational writing. We will focus on "How To" books. The children will get the opportunity to write books that teach others how to do something they are good at.

Math Workshop: We are have been playing lots of addition dice game this week focusing on taking the larger number and counting on.

Handwriting: The children did a rabbit draw along and made collage kites to get us ready for spring.

Up-coming events:

  • Word of the week- on
  • Handwriting letters- f and q
  • Early release- 4/4 & 4/11
  • April vacation- 4/23- 4/27

Enjoy your weekend!

March 16. 2018

Hi Fish Families.

Just a quick post tonight...

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the school budget last Friday night!

Your readers are working on retelling their just right books. They are making sure to include who the story is about, where the story takes place and what happens (in order.) This retelling aligns perfectly with writing because our true stories need to include all of that information, as well.

We finished up Unit 3 in math and are moving on to Unit 4 Operations and Algebraic Thinking. This unit focuses on addition and subtraction.

We have been reading some leprechaun tales this week and many of the children are blaming little noises and things dropped on the ground on these little people, so they built traps today. I'm sure they will let you know on Monday if they caught anything. 😉

Fingers crossed that the next snow storm TRULY goes out to sea!

Music Hall Field Trip- 3/20
Parent/Teacher Conferences- 4/4 and 4/11
