April 2, 2015

Hello!

Thank you to all of our chaperones for the Music Hall trip today. The performance was wonderful! The children seemed to love all 3 stories.

Here is a summary of our past 2 weeks:

Writers' Workshop: We are wrapping up our "How To" unit. The children chose their piece to edit and will continue with this work into next week.

Readers' Workshop: I hope you are enjoying listening to your readers each week. The children are working hard and applying those sight words to their independent reading. We will be re-visiting reading strategies to use when we come to a tricky word/part during our next unit. This week we worked on using Post-it notes to mark when we were thinking about our books. The children are writing a "thinking bubble" on the Post-it note when they predicted or were thinking about something. Tomorrow, they will learn how to write L.O.L. when they read something funny.

Math Workshop: We have been doing lots of counting by 1s and 10s this week. We played an attribute spinner game where the children had to pick out the correct object using 4 different attributes. We continue to work on (-) and (+) number stories and adding and disappearing train games. We even mixed the two symbols this week and had a tough time tricking these kindergarten math thinkers!

Dramatic Play:  Our Fish Class grocery store will be closing tomorrow and our dramatic play area will be a restaurant next week.

Donation Requests:

  • bags of flour for our texture table
Up-coming Events:
  • 4/8 & 4/15 will be early release days for conferences. School will end at 12:50 on those days
  • 4/27-5/1 School Vacation week

Have a wonderful weekend!
Kristen
